Our Mission

Wheatstone Academy is a ministry that raises up Christians who lead and create culture that glorifies God.

As Christians we are dedicated to spreading the transforming power of Christ to our communities, yet the culture of our time is increasingly hostile to the tenets of Christianity. The need for a growing generation of Christian leadership is urgent, yet more than half of Christian students are abandoning the church during their college years. Unconvinced of Christianity's relevance and unable to resist secular ideas, this generation is failing to become the adult leaders we need to manifest God's Kingdom to a secular culture.

The ministry of Wheatstone Academy combats this trend by creating specialized learning experiences for leadership-quality students, their parents, and youth workers. We demonstrate a perspective of life and study that is integrated in Christ, founded in community, and aimed at leading and creating culture that glorifies God.

Our Approach at every Wheatstone Academy event shares three common values

Critical Thinking

We believe that ideas matter, and that God calls us to use our minds to discover truth. Often, the ideas that do the greatest damage to the cause of Christ are not publicly debated, but subtly exist in our cultural framework. Through critical thinking and asking questions, Wheatstone staff helps Christians to recognize the assumptions and ideas in anything — a lecture, a book, a movie, or a painting — and to consider their truthfulness. Our goal is to teach Christians how to think, not what to think.

Relevancy

Because we believe that the truth and power of Christianity has a transforming power on human life and society, we are committed to equipping leaders who will communicate that powerful truth to the public in a variety of fields and through a variety of media. Christians must make a cultural contribution that is marked by excellence and service. At Wheatstone, we practice living "Christianly" in all areas of life, and discover ways to create God-glorifying culture that leads society, not follows it.

Community

It's not enough to have knowledge; we must demonstrate the love of Christ to our communities. Dialogue is central to Wheatstone's approach to help students learn cooperatively and consider their growth as a community effort. Learning through dialogue teaches students to broaden their interests beyond the self, and to consider the good of others above their own.

Statement of Faith

Wheatstone Academy is a non-denominational Christian ministry that believes the Bible is the true inerrant Word of God, written by men who were inspired by the Holy Spirit, and holds fast to the Apostle's Creed:

We believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

We believe in the Lordship of Jesus Christ, the only son of the God, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilot, was crucified, dead and buried. He descended to the dead, and was raised to life on the third day; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come again to judge the living and the dead.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy, catholic church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting.
